Research and development using short duration microgravity

A fifty meters drop tower providing three seconds of microgravity is operating in Akabira, Hokkaido. The drop tower can be used by researchers in and out of Japan, contributing to basic research into new materials such as carbon-tubes and safety measures for space fires. Further contributions are expected to energy and environmental issues through exploration of phenomena related to combustion, fluids, and energy transfer.
HASTIC has developed a low-gravity device, Ez-Space, which offers one-second of low gravity utilizing the rise-and-drop provided by a yoyo movement. The device is useful in simple demonstrations of low-gravity phenomena.
